Baby Charlie: two and half weeks old

I received a phone call at the end of January from Jenna asking me to photograph their first son Charlie. I love when a bride becomes a mother and moves into the next stage of life with her husband!! It is an amazing gift to become a mother and I was honored that Jenna called to capture them as a family of three. To much of Alex and Jenna’s surprise Charlie came several weeks early arriving on January 17. His daddy’s birthday. His name, Charles Bradley has significance meaning. Charlie is named after both Jenna’s and Alex’s father as Charles is their middle name. Bradley was Jenna’s brothers middle name who they lost 6 years ago as of January 15th as he was killed by a drunk driver. Little Charlie honors all the men in their families.

I headed down to Maryland on a Saturday afternoon to spend time with Alex, Jenna, and little Charlie! At the time of the session, little Charlie should have been in still inside; however he was home with his mommy and daddy! He is so tiny and cute!!! Charlie slept some and most of all loved being held in the arms of his mommy and daddy! I love these pictures as they freezes these first moments of Charlie’s life. As months pass, you look back and remember how how he sleeps with his hands up, how tiny his toes and fingers were, how his finger would wrap right around yours, how his head fit in the palm of your hands, and how you can hold him and look at him for hours. It all changes too fast! Alex and Jenna thank you for allowing me to capture little Charlie! It was so wonderful to be in your home with you three!!! Enjoy….and today is actually Charlie’s due date.

This is how I first saw Charlie, sound asleep with his hands up by his head!

Love tiny fingers!!!

Jenna you are a beautiful mama!!!

We took some pictures in Charlie’s room that was decorated with Baltimore memorabilia!

Love the Baltimore Orioles hanging in the window!

Above is a favorite for sure!! He fits in your hands perfectly!!

Charlie was alert and his eyes were wide open focusing on his mama.ten tiny toes…love them!!

LOVE him all curled up and snuggling on his mama!!

The baseball glove belong to  Alex’s father. If you look closely you can see his name on it!

You two are so natural as parents and your love for Charlie is evident!!

There is something that is so special between a daddy and his son!! I love how Alex looks at little Charlie!By the end of the session little Charlie was tired! He did a great job in front of the camera!!

A picture of their family of three!! and one with Brutus their dog too!!

i heart…dating

I was sitting in my college cafeteria on a Sunday night surrounded by books and notes. I was finishing up homework for Monday classes. I noticed Lyndon walking into the cafeteria and he was heading in my direction. Over the past semester  in college we would read at coffee shops, shoot the basketball around, and go on road trips to his hometown together. But only as friends. Nothing was ever mentioned about our friendship in our talks or walks together. I finally had to admit around Christmas time to myself and my sister that I had fallen quite hard for him. And I liked him. I had not dated anyone in college and I was in my last semester of my senior year. There was no way that I was not going to be the one to speak up and share my growing feelings for him. I waited.

As Lyndon reached the table where I was sitting I do not even remember him saying hi. He looked at me and said that we needed to go on a walk. Without question, I grabbed my coat and followed him out the doors leaving my books in a pile. Several steps outside of the cafeteria he started talking and asked me to listen. My mind was racing trying to figure out what he so urgently needed to tell me. Plainly he looked at me and said, “I like you”. With those three words, every changed. Everything that had been building over the months was now fair game and I could ask all the questions I had been holding back. Inside my heart was full of excitement and I kept replaying those three sweet words. I like you. Our walked continued through the neighboring neighborhood and we talked about what God was doing in our hearts and the direct he wanted for us. It was worth the wait. Officially we were now boyfriend and girlfriend!!! This was 10 years ago.

Today marks the day when Lyndon told me that he liked me. I am happy to say that I like him even more now then I did ten years ago!!! Last night we celebrated by going to Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore for a date together. We reminisced the highlights over each year we have been dating… time with family, Deerfoot, living in the city, getting engaged, getting married, finding CrossWay, out west road-trip, buying our first home, starting Lyndon Heath Cabinetry, building a barn for his shop, traveling to Europe, remodeling projects, camping trip to VT, having Myla, learning photography, and traveling to CA. I love making memories together!! We are so thankful for God’s faithfulness in our lives and for directing our steps.

One of our first pictures together once we started dating. (it was taken with film)

I am so thankful for Lyndon’s love, his patience, and faithfulness to me over these 10 years together!

Such a sweet story!

i heart. . .first looks

I confess, I love when a bride and groom to do a First Look!!! As a bride myself, I did not know what a First Look was or understand all the benefits of a First Look. No one explained the option of a First Look and how it would affect my our wedding day. So, what is a First Look? It is a moment when the groom sees his bride for the first time, before the ceremony and only the two of them. A location is chosen, the grooms back is turned away as his bride walks towards him in her beautiful wedding dress. They turn to each other and have their First Look alone and together! The anticipation inside me builds every time when a groom turns to see his beautiful bride for the first time. The smiles, the tears, and sweet words whispers are all things that I love for each bride and groom to have with one another. There is no pressure to hold back the tears or restrain your emotions. You are standing there together on your wedding day to just be with one another.  I stand back and capture these first looks between the bride and groom!

Being your wedding photographer, I worked along aside of each couple and listen to your desires of how you want your wedding day to look like, and what is important to you as a couple. It is my job to hear all the details and your desires. Then, I help create your wedding timeline. Common desires I hear from brides and grooms is that they want to be together as much of their wedding day as possible, time for pictures, and to have time with be with family and friends. A First Look allows these desires to be fulfilled.

Looking back, Lyndon and I did not have quiet moment to ourselves to express thoughts about the most important day in our lives and whisper sweet nothings to one another!  Your wedding day is full of emotions, expectations, getting ready, and being surrounded by friends and family you love. Having a First Look would have been a great pocket of quietness to have to ourselves. Time for me to communicate to Lyndon how excited I was to become his wife and how I had dreamed of this day! And now it is here!! And time for him to tell me how good I looked in my wedding dress!! : )  I wished that someone would have explained how special a First Look is and how special it would be too when I walked down the aisle for the first time. Both are special and for the first time. Having the First Look also permits your families, the wedding party and the bride and groom to enjoy the cocktail hour with their guests. This is possible as all portraits and family portraits are finished before the ceremony. Having the family and bridal portraits finished before the ceremony they are not rushed and no one is looking for Aunt Sally who is where?!? I also love to take no more then a half hour to shoot the bride and groom in the golden sunlight.  And do you know the best part of a First Look is? It is that you get to spend the day of the your wedding day with your best friend by your side! There is no hiding from one another and looking out so that you do not catch a glimpse of one another. No, none of that as you are right where you belong, by his side enjoying and experiencing your wedding day together! Some of my favorite images are from their First Look. Enjoy!!!

I like the new header and texture on the blog. Also how the sweater matches the color in the logo. Nice!

i heart…holga

The Holga is unpredictable and that is expected knowledge when shooting with this “toy” camera. It was created in 1982 in Hong Kong. The Holga is a plastic camera that uses medium format 120 film to capture your images.   The Holga knows no rules and is quite simple. There are two light settings, four focusing modes and two shutter speeds options for the Holga. Yet each click of an image will lend different results. You must embrace the random results produced with the Holga. I admit I am growing in embracing and loving the random results. There can be times when only one or two images turn out on the roll of film; however those images are cherished! There is something I love about dropping off film, waiting for the film to be developed, and the anticipation of seeing the results of each image. I confess one of the biggest reason I love the Holga is having the images in print form. Too many digital images stay on a disc or computer and this is sad to me (I’m guilty of this too and yet working towards printing more of my favorites!) I also love the five by five square composition of the prints. I received my Holga in 2010 and I decided I wanted to incorporate the Holga images into my wedding portfolio. These images can even be made into canvas wraps!! I can promise that each Holga image will be different and individual!! Enjoy the Holga images that I took from last year’s weddings!!

Very fun! I love film to and I loved the year I took b/w photography in college and got to develop it myself in the black room. At the time, developing in the black room was my favorite part of the photography process. So magical!

Oh man, this just makes me want one even more! I LOVE FILM. Any type of film will make me happy, but B&W makes me the happiest.
