Central Market: Michael and Mary

This is not the first time that Michael and Mary have been in front of my camera. Nor do I expect it being the last time. I love being able to document the different stages their life with my camera, but most of all I love being so close that we can experience life together. As we headed to market last Friday morning, Michael asked, “Who would had thought that he would be living with his wife about a mile from where I lived in the city after college.” It has been about five months since they moved to Lancaster and at times I still can not believe that my little brother and wife are living in the same town. Since moving here, Central Market has become a part of Mary’s weekly routine. Mary goes to Central Market for her weekly groceries of local fruits and veggies and beef. When we discussed location possibilities I thought of market immediately and it was perfect. We started off early Friday morning inside Central Market and then continued more pictures outside and around downtown. Michael and Mary, I love the two of you together. I love how you two love one another, are content in one another, and laugh with one another! Thank you for allowing me to document this next stage of life for you two! I am so happy there will be a little one joining you two, as it’s the best!!! ENJOY!!!

Central Market is the country’s oldest continuously operating farmers’ market!!

we went to market early as to beat the business and crowd.Michael, you are my little brother and I think you are handsome.we stopped right in front of the candy stand. . .chocolates anyone?love your smile Mary and I this is your pose!!Though they are having a boy, I love the pink scarf Mary wore!As a women, it is amazing gift to be able to carry your baby and to feel him or her move inside.Mary you look amazing at 37 weeks!above is a favorite. . .We headed up to a spot to overlook the whole market. I have never done that before! We then headed outside for some more pictures and natural sunlight!I love these next pictures as they are next to empty produce boxes from market. It is the everyday pictures that I love.So these steps have significance. . .Back in June M+M came up with my parents and we all went out to dinner. I took a picture of them here before dinner. It was the dinner they shared that Mary was expecting. Two months before they even knew they were moving to Lancaster!one picture of the 4 of us. . .the light in the morning was beautiful! and it did not hurt shooting at 1.2!!Above is another one of my favorites!! I could look at for hours!

Michael, I love how you love your wife! You are an awesome husband! It was Michael’s idea to head towards the Press Room, a local restaurant. I love how Mary laughs at my brother!!Michael loves children and I am so excited for him to experience love as a daddy!Mary you are an amazing wife and will be an amazing mother! So this shot rivals their wedding kiss shot! Recipe: Banana Bread

Recipes and I work two ways. The first way is when I am trying a new recipe. I try my best to follow exactly what the directions say. No shortcuts no matter how tempted I am. I tell myself, follow the recipe. The second way I work with recipes is seeing them as guidelines. The more familiar I am with a recipe the more liberty I feel to tweak the ingredients or anything else I feel like. The tweaking depends on what I have on hand and how much time I have before it needs to be serve. Yesterday I made banana bread. This is the best recipe and it makes two loaves. So I wanted to share. ENJOY!!

2 1/2 cups flour

1 2/3  cups sugar

1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

2/3 cups oil

2/3 cups buttermilk

4 bananas

3 eggs

Bake one hour at 350 degrees. Read below the liberty that I took to tweak it.

Yesterday, I had little over an hour before we headed to story time at the library and I had this idea to make banana bread for our care group meeting. I started to read the ingredients list out loud and realized that I was out of buttermilk. I never tweak that. It is the secret ingredient for making the bread so yummy! When talking this out loud Myla suggested using kefir. So tweaking began as I used 2/3 cups kefir instead of buttermilk. Now the clock was ticking if I wanted to get the loaves baked before Story Time. First, I always freeze my soon to be rotten bananas. I throw them right into the freezer with in mind to make banana bread at another time. My freezer is a little full with bananas now. I did not have time to wait for the frozen bananas to defrost. I decided that the oven would be my best bet to defrost them. The oven worked great. I used 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup of white flour. (in attempts to hide the wheatiness). For the sugar I used the combination of rapadura and organic evaporated cane juice to meet the 1 2/3 cups the recipe calls for. I use olive oil for the oil. Though I have been tempted to try coconut oil in its place, I decided not to this time. I will say that I keep all the measurements the same, just not the ingredients. I baked the loaves for about 50 minutes in my oven and I had six minutes to get to story time on time!

. . .. . .. . .. . .

Recipes and I have the same relationship, though I don’t follow them quite as often as I should. The results show at times. Ask my family.
For future, when missing buttermilk, you can add 1 T.lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk. There is also powdered buttermilk on the market that sits in ones fridge and keeps much longer, though I don’t know how “healthy” it is (knowing you are very conscientious).

Chestnut Hill: Adalie and AJ

Through Adalie’s older sister, I heard that she met a boy at college out in Montana where she was studying. There was interest on both sides. I soon realized that this interest took on the form of commitment when I received an email from Adalie inquiring about available dates for her and AJ’s wedding! I was honored that Adalie contacted me as she is a photographer herself. I tried to contain my excitement of shooting her wedding until she confirmed that she wanted me to shoot their wedding in May!!

There were months of long distance. Adalie was living in Montana while AJ living in Washington (the state). They decided they wanted to be closer then a day of travel to see one another. A move was needed. Adalie settled in with a family in Washington, now minutes from AJ. Their love for one another is evident and miles are now not in between them.  I asked AJ to write what is one thing he loves about Adalie. This is what he wrote, “1 Peter 3:4 says “but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quite spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” this verse in my mind captures who Adalie is and and because she is very precious in God’s sight is was hard to not fall in love with who she is.”

Over Christmas Adalie and AJ were in Lancaster and we spent their last afternoon together before they headed back to Washington.  Adalie chose to first meet at Chestnut Hill Cafe in the city. This coffee shop is full of character. If you are local here you should stop bye! After enjoying the warmth inside, we headed outside for some more pictures! If you remember last Wednesday the high was twenty six degrees outside! Adalie and AJ bundled up and walked the blocks of Chestnut Hill together. Adalie and AJ thank you for allowing me to capture you two! I loved my time with the two of you! And I promise it will be warmer in May! Enjoy!

Adalie and AJ did awesome as I was outside giving them hand signals of what to do as I shot!!

I loved this one of you Adalie through the glass!!

AJ you have a great smile despite what you told me!!a little sweet kiss behind the paper. . .Above. . .Adalie this is a favorite from the day!!In the background you can see the cafe!!I could not delete any one of these three shots, though similar all different!I love the peacefulness of these pictures of you in AJ’s arms!!I love all the colors going on in these pictures!love the smiles!!Above might be my absolute favorite from the day!!! Yes, FAVORITE!!Adalie brought her Polaroid camera along for their engagement session!

I think the cold did not help the quickness for the film to develop.

love the brick walls and shooting in the city. . .Adalie you are wearing two of my favorite colors. . .grey and yellow!!it was freezing out. . .as we finished the shoot AJ threw his hood up and I asked for one more picture!Adalie your ring is simply elegant!one last shot outside together at Chestnut Hill Cafe!

Wonderful! They look great and the colors are fantastic! And I’m so happy that Adalie is happy with them. I don’t think she has ever been the subject of a professional photo shoot (unless you count jr. high when Kara shot Adalie and her cousin at the Garden of 5 Senses at county park…hahaha).

I love this! The cafe shots are so great, and I love how colorful the outside ones ended up being on a cold gray day!

Oh my gosh. Jamie. I could not be happier! Thank you so, so much. I’m just that more excited to have you shoot our wedding! They are perfect- thank you.
