time away

I look forward to our time away each year as a family. Traveling and making memories together is what I love the most. This year it was California. I can not believe we left two weeks ago. Here is one picture from our trip and a short story. We were walking up to a small overlook point to see the Golden Gate Bridge a little closer. Myla was a few steps ahead of us on the path. She stops and turns around exclaiming, “This is breath taking!” Where she learned this, I do not know, but she was right on cue. I can not wait to share more pictures and stories from our trip. Myla even took a few picture of Lyndon and I together. She was too cute holding the camera up that covered most of her face. Have a wonderful weekend!

Jamie that is beautiful! I was so excited to see your website. . . it is great! :-)

Jamie, this shot is amazing. We were very close to this same place a few years ago. Bummer for us it was so foggy that day we could hardly see the bridge. Isn’t San Fran. just gorgeous??

Baby Cakes

Mary’s ultrasound just so happened to be on the very same day that I left with my family for vacation. The ultrasound tech immediately told them that it was clear.  He knew the gender of their baby. He kindly wrote it down on a piece of paper and sealed it in an envelope for them. Normally, this is great news for a couple wanting to know the gender of their baby! But Mary and Michael wanted to do a special reveal and have me take photos of them finding out. So you can imagine the talking Michael had to do to convince Mary not to rip open that envelope!

M&M are awesome.  They called and told me they were going to wait to find out until we got home.  10 days.  I was thrilled. I was also impressed that they were able to leave the surprise sealed in an envelope for the entire time. Mary then took the envelope to a local bakery for them to bake their surprise as a blue or pink cake.  Completely covered in white frosting. When I arrived to their house Monday night you could feel everyone’s excitement.

As they cut through the cake both of them leaned in closer to get the first glimpse of color.  I love how cute they are together. The anticipation rose as they made the second cut and finally saw the cake. Shouts of excitement filled the air as they saw their blue cake. They are having a BABY BOY!

As a photographer, I am often overwhelmed with gratitude and amazement at being able to be present during some of the most special moments in people’s lives.  And I was even more biased this time around because Michael is my younger brother.  He and his wife Mary are going to be amazing parents and we are all so excited to meet their little baby boy!  HE is expected to arrive this January.

Meet Elizabeth Reich: Interior Designer

I first met Elizabeth last fall in 2010. I was privileged to photograph several homes she designed in the Northern VA and Baltimore area. Elizabeth is an amazing interior designer with Jenkins Baer. I immediately fell in love with her design, colors, and details that she uses to create each room. Late this summer Elizabeth contacted me again to photograph another home in the Baltimore area whose interior she designed, so I spent the day with her capturing her work. When redesigning a home, she has a gift to see a vision for something far beyond what is present, creating timeless, individual rooms. By the end of the day I was ready to move in myself. Here are a few of the rooms I photographed. If you would like to contact Elizabeth, she can be reached at 410.727.4100.

wedding albums

I love when a couple decides to invest in an actual wedding album. No really… I LOVE it! Sadly, so many times wedding images end up never getting printed but are instead left on the disc in a drawer collecting dust. Where, lets be honest, they rarely get pulled out or looked through.  By anyone.  I truly believe that your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life.  Having an album with printed pictures is a simple and meaningful way to commemorate the start of your married life together, and it also creates a really accessible way to relive all the special moments of your wedding day.  I am always amazed at how many people will take a minute to look through our own wedding album at our house.  It is a simple reminder of all that went into that day and all of the love and joy that marked for us the beginning of our new life together.

I happily use Leather Craftsmen albums for all my client’s albums. Earlier this summer, Nikolina and Shane were married at the Stone Mill Inn.  Below are some pages from Nikolina and Shane’s wedding album (it is a 10×10).  I also work with Pictage to create a professional layout for each album.  I love the simple, clean and classic design of their layouts.  Nikolina and Shane, like each client, chose which pictures go into the album.  I love that they can open it and look at their wedding day over and over again. Anytime they want too.

and I love how my logo comes on the box. . .

the pages are flush mount and i love how they lay completely flat.

Jamie, you have such a gift. I love following your blog. :-)

celebrating three

My little girl is now THREE! I know this sounds cliché, but I truly cannot believe how fast she is growing up.  I want to capture everything she loves right now to remember this time in her life– teddy bears, tea parties, strawberries, baby dolls, and running everywhere barefoot. This shoot required a little set up…thank you to my amazing husband for loading everything up and driving to the location with me to shoot in the summer evening sun!

Ever since Christmas when she received the tea set, she has been having tea parties. She loves to serve each of her friends a slice of chocolate birthday cake. If you had been here, she would even have sung happy birthday to you.  Myla acts as a little mother to her baby dolls and is so sweet and caring. She always has one on her hip. For this birthday she asked for a baby doll that cries. She named her Caroline, and she is the one in the high chair for this shoot. The high chair was originally mine, made by Myla’s great grandfather, Pa, and I love watching her play with toys that I played with when I was her age. She also knows the alphabet, but most of all loves to knock over all the blocks the second she places the letter “z” on top. She is most happy when she is barefoot and running around. Hair down. ‘No hair ties please,’ she says.  So this is what I hoped to capture. At the end of the day, she is a happy three year old girl running around in the last bit of evening sun.
