Alex and Jenna married

The first time I met Alex and Jenna was down at Fells Point for their engagement session. They braved the freezing weather and the wind that day to have their engagement pictures captured. The day before Alex and Jenna’s wedding it rained. However, their wedding day in late May was filled with blue skies and sunshine. Jenna planned her wedding with a Maryland theme and colors. Their wedding was at perfect Maryland location held at Conrad’s Ruth Villa by the Chesapeake Bay.

Being Alex and Jenna’s wedding photographer I worked along aside of them and listen to their desires of how they want their wedding day to look like, and what is important to them as a couple. It is my job to hear all the details and then put it into a timeline.  Alex and Jenna decided to wait to see each other until Jenna walked down the aisle. After the timeline was created I keep hearing from Jenna the most important part for them was to be together and have time to be with family and friends. I suggested considering doing a First Look.

As a bride myself, I did not understand all the benefits of a First Look and no one really took the time to explained it to me. Looking back, we did not have quiet moment to ourselves to express our emotions and share our thoughts about our wedding day. The Wedding Day is filled and this would have been a great pocket of time to have to ourselves. I wished that someone would have explained how special a First Look is and how special it would be too when I walked down the aisle for the first time.  Having the First Look also permits your families, the wedding party and the bride and groom to enjoy the cocktail hour with their guest.

Just weeks prior to her wedding, Alex and Jenna changed their plans and decided to do a First Look.  And do you know the best part of a First Look is? It is that you get to spend the rest of the your wedding day with your best friend by your side!  Surrounded by family and friends for this celebration Alex and Jenna confessed their love for one another down by the bay. Sealed with a kiss they became husband and wife! Jenna you are stunning and Alex could not keep his eyes off of you!!! Alex and Jenna, I am so thankful for your trust and to have been there to capture your wedding day! Thank you! And I need to add a thank you to Lyndon for second shooting with me!

Tyler and Allan married

My desire last January was to complete my new branding and create a space where I could showcase my amazing couples and their weddings for this year. Both of these took more time then expected. By the time I created this blog their spring and summer weddings had already passed. I decided that I wanted to come back to each of these weddings and highlight these amazing couples . I know that even years later I love looking at my wedding pictures and reliving our wedding day. So I thought my brides would not mind seeing their images one more time! I am so thankful for the trust that each couple gave me as they asked me to photograph their wedding.

My first wedding of the year was held under the sycamore tree on a bright sunny day in early May.  Allan and Tyler confessed that they have found the one their hearts love in one another in front of family and friends. They promised to keep God first in their marriage and to walk through life together as best friends. Allan’s and Tyler’s love for one another was evident by their sweet affections, kisses and smiles throughout the day.

Tyler had a vision for her wedding day and it was displayed in all the details, which were beautiful and captured who they are as a couple. Friends and family help set up and placed each detail in its spot. Their creative guest book was drawn by Tyler’s mother. It was a perfect way to remember their guests,  because it was under a similar tree that they became husband and wife. Their wedding cake was bake by Allan’s sister Sarah Connell. The center pieces with parts of their vows, verses, and phrases engraved into wood was so fitting as Allan works for his father’s tree trimming business. One last detail was the beautiful black bow on Tyler’s wedding dress that she created herself.

Allan was in love with his bride and Tyler was stunning!! I loved being able to capture their day for them. It brought back many memories as I got married under the same sycamore tree  7 years ago. I also want to thank my parents for opening up Misty Glenn Farms, their home, for Allan and Tyler’s wedding. Many thanks to Tina Lapp for second shooting with me. Thank you Allan and Tyler for allowing me to capture your wedding day!

I love all the details and this is just the beginning.

Counting Down: Less then 12 day until Christmas

I honestly can not believe that Christmas is going to be here next week! Time is flying and I am still waiting for it to slow down. I guess it is never slow when you have a three year old at home with you. Myla and I are together all day long, unless I am shooting. She asks every time I go on a shoot if she can come and help. My response is one day when you are older you can come with me. I truly hope this happens. That was a little side note.

There is a internal struggle I wrestle with on a fairly regular basis. It’s no secret, I am a doer. I love a schedule and have a list in hand for each day. And I love spending time with my daughter. I know that these moments I have with her will be short looking back. Myla is growing so fast. Some days, I want to pretend that there is more time in a day and there is nothing on my to do list except to have a tea party with her. All day long! I also know that it is good for her to know that her mom is busy managing a home, cooking meals and cleaning, and running a business. She does help and work along side of me where she can whether it is a dust cloth in hand or peeling carrots, she helps. Last night she helped put the stamps squarely on the corner of our Christmas cards.

For this Christmas season as schedules get busy and the to do list grows, there is shopping to be done, cards to be mailed, and  laundry to put away, I wanted to be purposeful and make time each day to enjoy Myla. To get on her level and be with her. Something small, something she liked, and something we could do together. Each morning there is a piece of paper in the advent calendar with the activity for the day. She finds the number and I read it out loud. Some of the activities have included: go to the library, play with play dough, bake cookies, read Christmas books by the Christmas tree and there are a total of 24 simple things we get to do together. What do you like to do to pause time in the day and enjoy this Christmas season?

Last year we remodeled our family room, which included my husband making a new mantel.

This is the second Christmas we are enjoy having this room done and I love it!My favorite Christmas decoration is my advent calendar from Garnet Hill. It will be hung up each year.I finally got some new pictures in our frames. This one is a favorite of Myla from our time in Napa Valley this September.

Thanks so much for sharing this, Jamie. I am a doer as well and thrive on getting my “to-do” lists done. However, I am more and more aware these days that my boys are growing up under my feet faster than I can believe as I am running around getting “my stuff” done. I am convicted of how much opportunity I am letting slip away as I pursue things that don’t last. I struggle to know how to balance the responsibilities that face me every day and taking time to invest in these precious lives that will be grown and gone faster than I think. Thanks for sharing this practical idea. Your fireplace is beautiful and I LOVE that advent calendar! That might have to go on my wish list for a future Christmas. :-)

I’m drooling over your fireplace. That’s on our list of “would really like to have” in our next house. :) The whole mantel is so pretty.

Canvas Wraps

There is a question that runs in the back of my mind when I organize and sort the pictures that I have taken at the end of each month: what I am going to do with them all? How can I put my favorites into frames or on display. This picture was taken by Shannon Odell of Shannon Odell Photography with my holga camera in 2010. Thank you Shannon!

This family picture quickly became a favorite of mine and was on the front of my refrigerator for months. Maybe even a year.  I admired it each time I opened the refrigerator, thinking I want to do something with it-something to make it stand out. I looked to  Pictage for ideas as this company provides a variety of  options, sizes, and never forgetting to add in their amazing quality and customer service. They scanned in my holga film negative to create this 18 x18 canvas for me. I love everything about it. . .the black and white, and the square shape. Now everyone who enters our home can admire the image too, now in a canvas wrap.

(image taken with my sister’s iphone- i am hoping to rip off the wallpaper on the walls:)its been on since we moved in)

Neumann Baby Shower

Warning, this is going to be a long post, filled with way too many pictures!! I have to start with saying I love my younger brother and sister in law! I am so thankful that they moved to Lancaster the end of the summer! I have lived in Lancaster since I graduated college and family has been about an hour and half drive to Maryland, so to have family only fifteen minutes away is sweet. Myla loves them and is so excited for her little cousin to arrive at the end of January. She keeps telling Mary her baby is getting bigger and bigger every time she sees her, as well as asking if her baby is out yet! Obviously, we can not wait for his arrival and are counting down the weeks!

This shower was a joy for me to plan and a way to be creative! I love planning and details, and more details.  Mary opened her new home to everyone and I played hostess. Neighbors, family, friends, and many women from Crossway (our church) came to Mary’s shower. I was overwhelmed with the love and support they showed. Thank you all for coming to the shower! It was amazing to have everyone there to celebrate this new season of life with Mary.

When I began to plan for this shower, like any event, party or wedding, it needed a theme. The invitation became the starting point for my theme. Cute elephants in grey and green, I loved it the moment I saw the invitation online. I carried the two colors grey and green into the shower as it is Christmasish (I made it up, I know.) Straws, napkins, plates, twine, name tags were then all created with these colors in mind. The table  was easy to fill of winter sweets with the help of friends (Thank you for those who brought and bake food!). I had fun creating the banner for the table and for the cake using grey twine. Myla even helped me attach the string to all the elephant hanging on the white tree branches (Thank you Lyndon for spraying them for me!). Of course a winter theme needed some snow. The snow was a DIY project with cotton balls and fishing line. I love how it all came together and all who came! Enjoy the pictures!!

Their Leather Craftsmen wedding album on the coffee table. . . I hope to show some pictures soon!

Thank you Mom for all the great greenery and arrangements you created!

We took some time to share encouragement and practical advice about being a mother after we open the presents.DIY project: Cotton balls, fishing line, and a touch of hot glue to keep it on the fishing line.

Chocolate cake was a request and Beatty Chocolate Cake by Ina Garten never disappoints!

The Italian Butter Cookies are Mary’s grandmother from Italy recipe. A sweet touch of her here.Love these paper straws! They come in all colors!

Homemade hot chocolate! YUM!!
