Amanda Austin Interiors: Jackie Bayer Baltimore Residence (part one)

In September I had the honor to continue working and photographing a home designed by Jackie Bayer of Amanda Austin Interiors. I love hearing in advance about the client’s home from the designers whether through email or on the phone and catching glimpses of installs on their facebook post. It makes me excited  to see and experience all the details, colors, and textures in person. This shoot was no different as it was an all day shoot in which I spent with senior designer Jackie photographing beautiful rooms she designed for her client.

We started in the foyer. This elegant entry with upscale materials set the tone for the home. To start, the grasscloth wallcovering has a hand painted gold damask pattern.  The Macassar Ebony credenza sits perfectly in the entry just below the hand blown glass mini chandeliers and a beautiful rich brown mirror hung above it.

The dining room is a warm and inviting space and the home of the client’s many treasures.

The hand knotted antique rug and the silk ikat jewel toned fabric on the dining room chairs adds a timeless and classic feel to this space.

This bathroom was designed to be handsome using warm and rich materials: Emperador Dark marble counter tops;

a custom cherry vanity, and earthtone artisan tiles in the shower.

The ceramic plank floor tile is designed to look like hardwood and radiant heat is beneth to warm the tile.

Now we move into the kitchen. Comfortable, bright, white, and an elegant place to dine.

Sadie, of Amanda Austin Interiors designed the serpentine banquette adorned with their favorite, new Mary MacDonald fabric by Schumacher.

Jenn Air & Fischer Paykel appliances outfit the kitchen with the white cabinetry mixed with an Espresso Island.

The hardware is brushed nickel by specialty hardware company Schaub & Co. The oversized mother of pearl lantern

is perfect in lieu of a traditional kitchen chandelier. The material is a nice offset to the glass table below with the cool Calcutta Gold marble surfaces.

celebrating five

Each year my goal is to celebrate Myla and have a photo session capturing her and the things she loves. I am thankful to have these photos to look back on and see how she has grown and changed. She is now five. Yes, FIVE! My heart is full of joy and love for this little girl who is growing up, asks a million of questions, and is becoming the biggest helper. I love spending my days with her. I love listening to her play her music and sing or create songs spontaneously. She takes pictures of her self with my phone and creates videos of herself talking. She is independent and yet loves to snuggle and read books together. She loves to give hugs to everyone. Each baby doll of hers has a name and her love for them is evident in how she cares, feeds, and changes them. Each one important to her. Myla loves to create, draw, read books, and most of all pretend. She of course is the director and defines our roles. And sometimes even our lines, well most of the time. Myla loves to dress up in her wedding gown made by her Gigi and pretend to be a bride! She is truly a friend and such a gift that I treasure. And we ended the session with our family picture which makes nine of twelve!

This is where I will also speak being a parent and photographer. I know that it takes time to plan and put a date on a calendar however I would encourage investing in family portraits. Your family and children change and grow so fast in the early years. You are around them everyday and the changes seem small, but looking back through the yearly photographs of Myla reminds me that she is growing and changing. Photographs are one way to remember and reminiscence all the things you love about your children and family. You can see her three year old session here and four year old session here. ENJOY!!!

For this session, Myla had the ideas for poses and what she wanted me to photograph.

One day this daddy will give his little girl away and I can only pray it would be a man like him.five_904five_905five_906

And she still loves to run bare feet.five_907five_908five_909Her growing love for capturing moments makes me happy. She has a great eye and is becoming quite the photographer.five_910five_911five_912five_913

She is definitely a little mommy!five_919five_916Over the last four years I would read this book to Myla. I would forget what the wonderful secret Mama Bear had.

I would finish the book with tears in my eyes as we were waiting for our wonderful secret.

I still end now with tears in my eyes knowing that after all the waiting there is a wonderful secret growing.five_917five_914five_918

Artifact Uprising

There are hundreds of pictures, if not thousands that I have captured of our life and details of the every day with my phone each year. I am sure that I am not alone. I have attempted to create photo books through other companies in the past, print pictures and stick them in an album, and attempt organize them on my computer. Though I have not been successful with any of these methods consistently. I believe each image has a purpose, a story to tell, something that I want to remember…despite these desire for purpose most of my images are stored on my computer sit only to be viewed when in the office. The story and memories are being held captive. I love holding a print and seeing its color in person or flipping pages of a book and looking back at the memories created together. I am a believer in reminiscing.

This summer a friend share with me Artifact Uprising and in doing so has solved a problem for me: What to do with all my iphone pictures? Artifact Uprising made it easy to take my pictures off my phone and put them into my hands through a beautiful %100 recycled book. They even created a book designed for Instagrams. I made one book this summer of last year’s Instagrams. This past weekend, part of my nesting was to collect my favorites and organize them from this year so that I can make a book come the new year. It given me purpose to keep capturing the everyday moments with my iphone and for that I am grateful. Make sure you check them out. All their products are beautiful and created with purpose.

Glad to hear good things about this company! As you know I do an annual photo book using Blurb and I love that. I think this will be my 5th year! I use my camera photos as well as my iphone images to do my annual book and have been happy with it. However, I really want to make the photo calendar clipboard that Artifact offers this year for all of our parents! I think that will be a nice thing to give grandparents to enjoy all year!! Can’t wait to try it!

Lyndon Heath Cabinetry: Ruxton Residence Master Bedroom

Light, relaxing, and calming would be all words to describe this Master Bedroom. Stepping into the room the natural sunlight beamed in. The light grey walls added a layer of peacefulness and the pop of pink added the touch of happiness. And let’s not forget to mention the fireplace. I have always wanted a fireplace in the master bedroom. It seems to create the perfect warm, romantic and cozy atmosphere.

Lyndon Sentz of Lyndon Heath Cabinetry worked with architect Patrick Jarosinski to create the custom window seats, built-ins, and mantel. Lyndon noted that it is remarkable how the initial concept design is always matches the final product when working with PDJ and Associates. The details and design are well thought through both in design and function. It is the planning and precise execution of the details that make a project complete. ENJOY!!!

Also in the home a custom desk was designed to be hidden behind the closet doors!

Check out how they used closet space and made it very practical and functional.

Eight of Twelve

eight of twevle_742As the months of the year go by it is harder to remember to get our monthly family photo.

In August we headed to the lake for a week with family and waited until the day we were leaving to grab a picture of us.

The lake has become a place to relax, unwind, and make memories. Making memories is my favorite part.eight of twevle_743eight of twevle_744
