Eleven of Twelve

Slowly we are beginning a new tradition which I love. A tradition of cutting down our Christmas tree after Thanksgiving.  I love having a tree in my home for as long a possible. I might be making up for the years that we did not have Christmas tree. Creating memories and traditions together as a family however is what I love the most. We headed up to Elizabeth Farms, a local tree farm just north of us to find our Christmas tree. We bundled up in warm hats, gloves, and boots and drank hot chocolate to keep us warm from the cold. This year Myla repeatedly said how happy she was getting a Christmas tree! I loved watching her excitement as we boarded the horse drawn wagons, weaving through the aisles of tree and finally choosing one. The countdown til Christmas has begun!

As a tree was found I stayed with the tree, Myla and Lyndon took off to see if

there was one out there that would fit the “perfect tree” category.

so thankful for Myla snapping our picture!

Fun fun! We hope to do the same this coming weekend! :)

Myla was telling me about it (as we stood at the sinks together in the ladies’ room) and she was so excited! She is the sweetest little girl; what a blessing! I love the pictures and the sentiment.

We love going here as well! It’s one of my favorite memories of Christmas time.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

I started liking pumpkin pie once I was married. For years I chose apple pie over pumpkin.

This recipe changed pumpkin pie for me. The best part will be eating a slice for breakfast tomorrow.

I am by no means a master at making pies or pie crust. There is always a good side and bad side! Thankfully it all taste the same!

(and of course I tweaked the recipe…instead of 1/3 cup milk I use half and half (a little creamier) and no brandy)

We so missed your pumpkin pie ! ! !

Meaghan and Pete married

The day arrived with warm bright sunshine. It was the day that Meaghan and Pete had planned and waited for. Their wedding day. It was also my last wedding of the year and my heart was full of excitement for them to become husband and wife. I love being married, and it brings me such joy to celebrate and capture other couples as they enter marriage together.

If you remember from my earlier post, it was shortly after their first date when Meaghan boldly asked Pete if she take a new job offer, which would mean moving out of town and continuing their relationship long distance. Pete knew just as early on that he did not want to live life without Meaghan. She then decided to stay in town. And last Saturday Pete promised to cherish her by his side for the rest of their lives.

The day was full of smiles, tears, remembering loved ones who were not present, details and all things Greek! Hints of purple were traced throughout all their details from the flowers, sprinkles on the cupcakes, to Meaghan’s socks! The American Visionary Art Museum is located in Federal Hill and provided the perfect artsy venue for Meaghan and Pete’s reception. Along with their family and friends, they celebrated each other and the beginning of their new life together.

Meaghan and Pete thank you for entrusting me to capture your wedding day. It is such an honor and I loved celebrating your love. May you enjoy the rest of your honeymoon and your first married Thanksgiving together! Also, a big thank you to Chaucee for second shooting with me and for Mary for assisting me. ENJOY!!!

Meaghan wore this ring that belonged to her grandmother.Feathers on a dress…o the perfect touch!Everyone, including Pete wrote Meaghan words of encouragement

as she would know that everyone was walking with her down the aisle.Yes, I love when a couple chooses to do a first look!

Pete’s father loved Disney and always wore golf hats.

This was one of his hats that his family got made into a handkerchief for Pete’s wedding day!

Meaghan’s bracelet was from the 1940, its a piece of jewelry that belonged to her mother.O-YES!!!These two above are my favorite! Seriously Meaghan, you are beautiful!

In honor of her father Meaghan had a his name from his uniform wrapped around her bouquet.

all shades of purple and each a little different!

Thank you Chaucee for capturing these two of the bridesmaids!

The crowning takes place in the ceremony and worn by the bride and groom

who are to be respected as king and queen of their home.Circling the table is called the Dance of Isaiah that is led by the priest.

The dance proclaims the Church’s joy at the new union.

Officially husband and wife!

Meaghan hand dyed all the clothes pins for the escort cards. The center pieces were beautiful shades of purple flowers by Sandy of Coker Main Even Florals. Each stand was hand crafted to hold Robert McClintock’s local art work.It might have been the biggest cupcake I have seen!

As the reception began, Meaghan planned time for some more portraits down by the water.

And to still have time to join the cocktail hour too!

LOVE these sweet kisses!!!

You didn’t pick your personal fav! I would have to go with the LOVE photo – amazing!

How awesome are those shots you captured outside the reception site- especially the b&w with the “LOVE” and the one of the bride and the bus!

Irene

My favorite – the black and white on the water with them looking over their shoulders. The facial expressions say it all!

Love the feathers in the dress and the shot with her by the decorated bus!

A last minute decision

I am usually a planner and like to have things scheduled on the calendar far in advance. Although making the decision only five days before Justin & Mary Lighting Intensive seemed like last minute decision, it was sorta planned. Let’s back up. It was last November when I began following Justin & Mary on their blog and enjoying their famous pancake sessions. These pancake sessions are pack full of experience and wisdom. Justin & Mary are teachers. Their posts are clear, informative and leave little guess work. I kept coming back to the Off Camera Lighting pancake session. Reading it, taking notes, researching the pocket wizards, and re-reading it one more time. Their images using off camera lighting were beautiful…stunning. I wanted to learn more and from them. Timing was everything.

They announced back in October that they were hosting their final Lightening Intensive for the year and it would be in CT. I had watched other workshops dates go and come. I tucked away the November date and the idea that I wanted to attend. I kept thinking about the goal I set for myself to learn more about off camera lighting in the beginning of the year. Doubts and fears were two things that kept me from committing to attend. I shared my fears and desire to learn and grow as a photographer to Lyndon. These two feelings are often mixed together for me. He is the best listener and knows how to encourage and challenge my fears. He said, “go”. I packed my camera and off camera lighting gear ready to face my fears.

After introductions Mary began talking about fear and specifically fear she once associated with off camera flash too. Justin & Mary laid the foundation of why they do something before the technical how’s. It was a wonderful night sitting before the fire listening to their wisdom, answering questions, meeting other photographers in the industry, taking notes, and of course drinking hot chocolate. Justin & Mary opened their home and shared transparently their passion and hearts for photography. They promised that no one would leave without the confidence to use their flash and an off camera light. I left way past my bedtime and with confidence they gave through their Lighting Intensive. If you too are fearful of off camera lighting put it on your goal list next year to attend and fight your fear.  All images below are with shot with on camera flash or off camera lightening. No natural light. ENJOY!
